  • How to encourage creativity in the workplace

In our modern over-saturated world, creativity has become a necessity to succeed in the corporate sphere. All around the globe, major companies like google have been recognizing the importance of a creative workplace, and how it enhances the results and the reputation of the company.
However, as everything in the world, there’s a right way and a wrong way to establish a creative workplace and doing it the wrong way could have extremely negative impact on your organization. So, how can you successfully establish and encourage creativity in the workplace?

    Create a diverse team:

Nothing encourages creativity more than an exchange of diverse ideas.
By creating a diverse team, and encourage constructive debate between them, you’ll build a creative atmosphere that ignites from within the members of the team themselves. You can check out AIESEC Partners portal as a starting point for this.

    Walk the talk:

The best way to encourage creativity, is to actually encourage it. More than often, managers don’t support their words of encouragements with actions. Allow mistakes to happen and give them space to learn for them. A creative workplace might entail allowing unusual methods and actions, so embrace the since of out-side-the-box-thinking rather than frown about it.

    Shift your focus to results:

To encourage creativity, you should give more space for your members to do their tasks in their own unique way. That means more general description of what’s needed, and a bigger focus on results rather than the methods used.

    Reward it:

In the vain of recognizing the best from your employees, make rewarding creativity a main focus for you. Publicly acknowledging the creative individuals will help cement the culture of creativity you desire.

Distinguish between positive and negative creativity:

The trickiest part of this all might be distinguishing between positive and negative creativity. In some instances, creativity yields negative results if it’s not managed properly. Creativity is never the end, it’s merely a means to an end. If creativity isn’t driving towards results or generally being beneficial, then it should be reviewed and re-directed.

The road to success is often paved with massive hurdles that only the most creative can overcome. Richard Bronson, one of the richest individuals in the world said “My success has been defined by My ability to take a step back from problems, and re imagine them to in turn see new, original solutions. And I’m not alone. If you take a look at history, the businesses and change-makers that stand out are those that haven’t just added to the game, but instead reinvented it.”. Those words ring more true now than ever.
